Your kids will grow in an electric world

When I talk to people about EVs and Electric charging there’s often a topic that comes back: How are future generations going to be impacted by the current electric revolution?
THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT.
I’m a happy father of three kids myself and I’m constantly thinking about how the world will look for them in the future. When I’m projecting myself 20 years from now, diesel and petrol will be a thing of the past for them. Fumes will be revolting, there won’t be this subtle smell of sulfur in the air and they won’t be a concern for their health if they live next to a busy road. When I speak at events or when I introduce my business, I always draw a comparison between the electric revolution and the smoking ban in the UK. When I arrived in the UK, smoking was still allowed in pubs and you would stink of a cigarette after a night out. What a blessing when smoking was banned. You could finally go into a pub without taking a deep breath beforehand! Nowadays, nobody would tolerate someone smoking in a pub, let alone someone smoking next to your kids. Now think of diesel and petrol cars as smokers in the pub. When our kids will grow up, electric cars will become the norm. They will look at diesel and other polluting vehicles as a smoker in a pub, they won’t tolerate it.
EXPLAINING THE ELECTRIC WORLD.
When my daughter saw me charging our electric car for the first time, she was puzzling what I was doing. She knew about petrol stations and she thought I was “filling up” the car. I made a few attempts to explain to her, in simple terms, how it works but it wasn’t really convincing her so I took an example that was meaningful to her:
Our car is like your little toy: it needs batteries to work but I can’t remove the battery because it’s too heavy. So I use this cable to charge it.
And it worked and she understood that we can now charge our big “toy” by ourselves. She sometimes wants to charge the big car herself (more on this in another article). I’ve also got two young boys. They are simply too young to even remember petrol stations. Using electricity for our car will be a completely natural thing for them.
NURTURE THE REVOLUTION.
It’s important to share with your kids your electric experience. After all, they’re the next generations and they deserve to have fossil fuels completely taken out of their lives. Explaining to them how electric car works is easy because you can easily compare them to their own toys. Sharing is also the best way to ensure that they’ll carry on the habit when they’ll grow up and help the planet become a little bit greener. Not the mention the health benefits for them. I won’t start quoting stats but although it’s officially debated, there’s no doubt for me that the PM2.5 and PM10 have an impact on our little ones’ health. My daughter often complains that she doesn’t want to walk next to the road because cars and lorries are smelly. I keep telling her that these cars are not nice and that they’ll soon be gone (another health benefit)! So make the most of it and share with your kids, show them how great electric cars are and explain to them the benefit of having one!
